Samaana Anwar

Samaana Anwar is completing an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Waterloo, with a strong interest in medicine, community health, and the intersection of science and social justice. Alongside her academic studies, she contributes to cancer research as a Research Assistant at the Waterloo Regional Health Network Research Centre, focusing on radiation therapy and its impact on patient quality of life. She also serves as a Toxicology Lab Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo, guiding students in their learning and lab techniques.
Committed to service and community well-being, Samaana has been actively involved with Muslim Social Services, where she served as a Summer Camp Leader and currently as Outreach Coordinator, helping to plan programs and foster partnerships that strengthen community ties. She has also volunteered with the Islamic Humanitarian Service and the Cancer Centre at Grand River Hospital, offering compassionate support to patients and families. Beyond healthcare and community service, she has taken on leadership roles with Women in Healthcare and Women in STEM, organizing initiatives that promote equity and inclusion.
Recognized for her academic achievements, Samaana has received multiple Term Distinctions at the University of Waterloo as well as the University of Waterloo Merit Scholarship. Outside of academics and volunteering, she enjoys creative pursuits such as writing, sewing, and podcasting, as well as strengthening her language skills through Farsi studies. She is passionate about medicine, intercultural understanding, and initiatives that empower immigrant and marginalized communities.
