Position Summary
MSSWR is seeking a highly organized and creative Communications Coordinator to support the delivery, promotion, and evaluation of our programs under the supervision of the Program & Events Manager. This dynamic role blends program coordination and participant engagement with social media, communications, and outreach activities.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and skilled at connecting with diverse communities both in person and online. They will help ensure MSSWR programs run smoothly and are effectively promoted, documented, and evaluated.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Social Media

Manage all MSSWR social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, IG, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok), including monitoring direct messages, comments, and tags across platforms and responding in a timely and professional manner.

Develop and implement a social media strategy and content calendar with scheduled posts.

Create compelling, community-centered content for all channels.

Design digital outreach materials (flyers, brochures, banners, social media assets).

Capture and edit high-quality photos and videos from programs/events for promotional use.

Collect and curate stories and testimonials of impact from program participants.

Assist in developing and running seasonal campaigns and initiatives.

Draft captions, calls to action, and hashtags aligning with MSSWR’s voice and messaging.

Design and distribute annual and impact reports, as well as quarterly newsletters and updates (through Mailchimp or similar tools).

Support web communication efforts by monitoring the MSSWR website, posting content updates/announcements and troubleshooting web-related issues.

Contribute to keeping the website content relevant and consistent with programs (e.g. program pages and surveys).

Share relevant partner content (e.g., Camino, local community groups) to support visibility.

Maintain visual and brand consistency across all communications.

Monitor the general organization email inbox, respond to general inquiries, and forward requests to the appropriate staff members.

Track performance of posts and campaigns using platform insights and analytics.

Stay updated and apply trends, tools, and best practices in nonprofit digital marketing.
Program Support & Coordination

Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of MSSWR programs and events under the guidance of the Programs & Events Manager.

Coordinate with program leads to collect updates, success stories, and photos from events.

Occasionally assist with program and event logistics, including registration, participant communication and on-site logistical and participant support.

Occasionally collect and organize program evaluation data to inform continuous improvement.

Maintain and organize digital and physical program records for reporting and evaluation.

Provide administrative support related to program scheduling, supplies, and documentation.

Periodically attend and document program sessions and events with photos and videos, respecting participant confidentiality and photo consent guidelines.
Other Duties as Needed

Occasionally represent MSSWR at community events and outreach opportunities.

Perform additional tasks to support MSSWR’s mission and operations as assigned by the Program & Events Manager or Executive Director.
Qualifications
-
2+ years of experience in social media and/or communications, program coordination or related nonprofit/community roles.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including social media and public-facing content creation.

Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn), and email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp).

Basic graphic design and digital media skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Spark) to create digital outreach materials.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Comfort and enthusiasm for working directly with program participants and diverse community members.

Familiarity with program evaluation tools or methods is an asset.

Multilingual abilities (especially Arabic, Urdu, Somali, or other languages spoken in the Waterloo Region) are an asset.

Understanding of Muslim faith preferred and faith-based programming preferred.

Job Requirements

Must hold a valid G-class driver’s license and have regular access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel.

Must have, or be willing to obtain, a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.

Availability to work evenings and weekends as required; a flexible schedule is essential for this role.
Compensation:
-
The position pays $25 per hour for a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week.
