Job Title: Mental Health Clinician / Social Worker (MSW, RSW, RP)
Location: In-Person (Kitchener - Waterloo Region)
Contract Type: Part-time, contract
Contract Term: Up to March 31, 2027 (with potential for renewal)

Hours: Primarily weekday daytime hours; some evenings/weekends may be required

Rate: Competitive, commensurate with experience (approx. $30–$40/hour)

Muslim Social Services of Waterloo Region (MSSWR) is a community-based, non-profit organization committed to providing culturally and spiritually responsive mental health and social services to diverse populations, including immigrants, refugees, newcomers, youth, families, and seniors.

Position Summary

The Mental Health Clinician / Social Worker provides assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, case management, and group facilitation services as part of a multidisciplinary team.

    • Psycho-social Assessment: Collect data about clients through intake forms, interviews, and case history; evaluate information to identify causes of issues and determine appropriate therapeutic approaches. 

    • Counselling: Provide counselling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to individual clients, families, and groups. 

    • Therapeutic and Psycho-social Groups: Establish and facilitate group counselling for group therapy programs to address common issues faced by clients. 

    • Program Development: Develop and present educational programs, workshops, and therapeutic programming to benefit clients and families. 

    • Professional Development and Outreach: Represent MSS at community events and networking meetings. Attend team meetings, as well as supervision and professional development opportunities.

    • Administrative Management: Maintain compliance with regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards. Support data collection and reporting requirements.

    • Professional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other therapists, staff, and support professionals within and outside agency. Refer clients to appropriate service providers when necessary. 

    • Presentations: Deliver workshops and presentations for community events and partner agencies on mental health and wellness topics.

    • Crisis Intervention: Offer therapeutic crisis intervention and de-escalation when required. 

    • Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with a regulatory body (e.g., CRPO or OCSWSSW). 

    • A clear Vulnerable Sector Check, issued within the last six months. 

    • Fluency in English and Arabic. 

    • Proven experience in providing individual and group therapy. 

    • Strong skills in leading presentations, data reporting, and program development. 

    • Experience working with diverse populations, including immigrants and refugees. 

    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, families, and professional networks. 

    • Ability to work independently and manage client caseloads effectively. 

    • Formal training and demonstrated knowledge in evidence-based (e.g., solution focused brief therapy, motivational therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy) or any evidence based treatment models.

Preferred Assets

  • Knowledge and experience in culturally sensitive therapeutic practices. 

  • Understanding of the social, cultural, and legal challenges faced by refugees and newcomers, particularly by youth and children. 

  • Language knowledge and/or fluency in Urdu, Pashto, Dari, Hindi, and other languages is an asset.
